To support Wilton’s rapidly expanding population and increasing retail demand, Metro Property Development (Metro) has sold its retail neighbourhood centre site in Bingara Gorge, NSW to Coles.
Wollondilly Shire Council approved a development application in June 2023 for a full-line supermarket, complementary speciality stores, convenient car parking and click and collect services. This retail precinct is located at 30 Pembroke Parade, Wilton.
Metro Property Development Managing Director Luke Hartman says, “Metro made the strategic decision to sell the development site to Coles to reinforce the company’s commitment to community development and confidence in Coles’ ability to enhance Bingara Gorge’s convenience retail offering.
“Metro and Coles’ shared vision is to deliver a high-quality retail asset for the community in the growing Wilton 2040 NSW priority growth precinct. The addition of Coles will provide convenient access to groceries and the diverse amenities will contribute to a high quality of life for residents.”
He added, “Centrally positioned within the estate and directly linking with walk and cycle paths, the new contemporary amenity is expected to become a vibrant social gathering and shopping place.”
More than 100 jobs will be created during construction and over 100 permanent positions.
Coles General Manager Property Fiona Mackenzie says, “Coles is always excited to deliver world-class supermarkets that serve the local community. We continue to focus on property developments where there are good retail supermarket outcomes.
“This development represents a multimillion-dollar investment for Bingara Gorge, offering the community more choice, great value and an enhanced shopping experience.”
The new retail precinct will be a short walk from Wilton Public School, Bingara Gorge Golf Course, bus stops, playgrounds and a medical centre.
Spanning 450 hectares, Bingara Gorge is the most advanced and highly sought after development in the Wilton region. Wilton will be home to 40,000 residents by 2040. Over 2500 people currently reside in the estate with this figure anticipated to growth to more than 5000 by 2027.
Over 200 hectares of open spaces, a golf course, playgrounds, tennis courts, walk and cycle paths, leisure centre, retail shops, childcare and primary school complement the development.
