Mondelēz International has extended its partnership with data processing company Celonis with the intentions of speeding up its bid to become an autonomous, AI-driven business.
The snacking company will implement the Celonis Context Model, enabling the business to combine process intelligence with predictive scenario planning.
The two companies have collaborated since late 2024 which has already yielded considerable gains across seven end-to-end processes including $US10 million ($AU14.3 million) in value and $US6 million ($AU8.6 million) recovered in 90 days by plugging credit memo leakage.
Rossana Rizzotto, Head of the Office of the CIDO at Mondelēz International, says the ultimate goal for the company is to build self-healing processes that anticipate disruptions, adjust workflows and solve problems before they occur.
“Our ambition is to become an AI-driven business, and Celonis helps us fast-track that journey. It enables us to position our ERP modernisation as a value-driven transformation and provides the digital foundation needed for AI-enabled operations,” she says.
“Getting iconic snacks like Oreo, Cadbury, or Milka into the hands of billions of customers in more than 150 countries takes some heavy lifting behind the scenes. When you operate at our scale, hidden process problems can directly impact how we make our chocolate, track retailer shipments, or pay suppliers.
“That’s why we’re racing towards becoming an autonomous, AI-driven business. But as any technology leader will tell you, there’s quite a difference between launching a single pilot and scaling AI across business units and countries.
“At Mondelēz, we’ve seen first-hand that without our business context, even the most advanced LLMs and agents risk making the wrong call. So, for us, our path to enterprise AI started with the core fabric of our business: our processes.”
Mondelēz uses the Celonis platform to create a living digital twin of its global operations. With a clear understanding of its business processes, such as source-to-pay, order-to-cash, and hire-to-retire, the company says it’s ensuring its ERP transformation delivers measurable business value and operational efficiency.
Using Celonis, Mondelēz is now laying the groundwork for deploying agentic AI, by:
- Identifying high-ROI use cases. Pinpoint exactly where to deploy AI agents for maximum financial return.
- Monitoring AI impact. Track the downstream effect of every AI action across systems so it can continuously refine agent set up.
- Optimising total cost of service. Measure the operational cost of human versus agent workflows.
