Romeo’s rolls out RSPCA-approved chicken

romeo's rspca approved farmingAs of July 27, any chicken wrapped in-store and sold as Romeo’s Fresh Chicken from the chain’s meat departments will carry the RSPCA Approved Farming logo.

The Romeo’s Retail Group – including South Australian Foodland stores and it’s NSW SUPA IGA stores – is believed to be the first independent supermarket chain in Australia to be granted RSPCA approval for its chickens.

A spokesperson for the group said it made the conscious decision to no longer delay this process and be a leader among its competitors and peers.

“We hope that other independent retailers will follow our initiative and help speed up the process to have all supermarkets branding the RSPCA farming approval,” Romeo’s said.

RSPCA Australia CEO Heather Neil applauded Romeo’s Retail Group on moving to RSPCA-approved fresh chicken.

“Not only is Romeo’s doing the right thing for their customers, they’re also supporting Australian farmers and improving the lives of thousands of chickens,” she said.
