September 30, 2019 marks the deadline for employers with 19 employees or less to start reporting their employees’ tax and superannuation to the ATO using Single Touch Payroll (STP).
ATO Assistant Commissioner, Jason Lucchese says that the ATO wants to assist all employers to ensure they how to get ready for STP, particularly any employers who may face challenges with this
“We want to make sure each business understands what their options are when it comes to transitioning to STP and are aware of the available concessions to given them more time to get ready,” informed Mr Lucchese.
“… It is important that employers take a look at the ATP Single Touch Payroll website to better understand how STP will apply to their situation.”
STP reporting concessions
Reportedly, retail employers may be eligible for STP reporting concessions if they:
- Employ 19 or fewer workers seasonally or intermittently for three months or less.
- Don’t have access to reliable internet connection.
- Have closely help payees (eg family members) who may not be paid regularly.
- Employ between one and employees – these employers may be able to choose a no-cost or low-cost solution (available at ato.gov.au/stpsolutions) or report quarterly through a registered tax or BAS agent.
