SMC’s LE Series: Compatible with 16 Motor Manufacturers

Media Release

February, 2020

Filling the technology gap between complex, conventional electric actuators and standard air operated cylinders, SMC’s range of motorless type electric actuators, the LE series, offers a host of performance benefits to its customers.

From installation ease and enhanced flexibility to improved performance, this series is the perfect solution for applications with existing motor platforms that now require a customized solution.

According to Jozef Ceh, Digital Transformation Manager – SMC ANZ, the motorless option is available for a range of electric actuators within the LE series including the LEFS Slider Type, LEFB Slider Type, LEJS High Rigidity Slider Type, LEY Rod Type and LEYG Guided Rod Type.

“The LE series is compatible with 16 motor manufacturers some of which are Rockwell, Mitsubishi, OMRON, YASKAWA, Beckhoff – along with many others.”

More about the LE Series

LEFS Electric Actuator, Slider Type, Ball Screw Drive (AC Servo Motor, 100/200/400W)

The original LEFS slider features various motor mount options. Featuring a compatible guide, it becomes an ideal solution for constructing gantry style systems and heavy offset loads

  • Body sizes: 25, 32, 40
  • Maximum workload: 60 kg
  • Maximum speed: 1500 mm/s (H lead)
  • Stroke range: 50 to 1000mm in 50mm increments
  • Positioning repeatability: ±0.02mm

LEFB Electric Actuator, Slider Type, Belt Drive, (AC Servo Motor, 100/200/400W)

The AC servo version of the LEFB slider features a flexible motor mounting option to allow for protruding loads.  Being a belt driven option, lends itself perfectly to long stroke applications for traversing lighter loads and high speeds.

  • Body sizes: 25, 32, 40
  • Maximum speed: 2000 mm/s
  • Maximum stroke: 3000 mm
  • Positioning repeatability: ±0.08 mm

LEJS, Electric Actuator, High Rigidity Slider Type Ball Screw Drive (AC Servo Motor (100/200W)

The LEJS is a slider type electric actuator available exclusively with an AC servo motor. “This actuator features a substantially wider load mounting platform than the LEFS, supported internally by a double axis linear guide for reduced moment deflection. The AC servo motor enables higher speed and acceleration, as well as a high-load size 63 model exclusive to LEJ.

  • Body sizes: 40, 63, 100
  • Maximum workload: 135 kg
  • Maximum speed: 1800 mm/s (H lead)
  • Maximum stroke: 1500 mm (2500mm*LEJS100)
  • Positioning repeatability: ±0.02mm

LEY, Electric Actuator, Rod Type, AC Servo Motor (100/200/400/750W)

The AC servo version of the LEY rod features an AC servo motor instead of a DC version. The AC servo motor enables higher speed, acceleration, and pushing force, as well as a size 63 model not available in a DC version.

  • Body sizes: 25, 32, 63 & 80
  • Maximum workload: 200 kg (horizontal); 115kg (vertical)
  • Maximum pushing force: 3343 N
  • Maximum stroke: 800 mm
  • Positioning repeatability: ±0.02 mm

LEYG, Electric Actuator, Guided Rod Type, AC Servo Motor (100/200W)

The AC servo version of the LEYG guided rod features an AC servo motor instead of a DC version. The actuator features a bolt-on bearing block with double guide rods that resist rotational and lateral loads. The AC servo motor enables higher speed, acceleration, and pushing force. Body sizes: 25, 32

  • Maximum workload: 60 kg (horizontal); 46 kg (vertical)
  • Maximum pushing force: 736 N
  • Maximum stroke: 300 mm
  • Positioning repeatability: ±0.02 mm
  • Bearing types: sliding bushings or ball bushing bearings
  • Maximum allowable rotational torque: 5.76 N•m (sizes 32, 40; stroke dependent)
  • Non-rotating accuracy of plate: ±0.05° (slide bearing); ±0.06° (ball bushing bearing)Bottom of Form

In addition, SMC’s step motor controller solution, the JXC91 series can be used to integrate EtherCAT, EtherNET IP or ProfiNET communication and is easy to install, easy to use and requires less labour due to reduced wiring. “The JXC91 is the perfect accompaniment for the LE series as it monitors the actuator status and can change actuator movement data. It’s ideal for pick and place, filling and conveyor applications.” concludes Jozef.
