V Energy launches Japanese-inspired flavour

V Energy has introduced a new addition to its V Refresh range, V Refresh Blackcurrant Yuzu.

Promoted as a “crisp, light, and refreshing” energy drink, the new product brings together the “bold and fruity” flavour of blackcurrant with the unique, Japanese-inspired yuzu.

“We’re excited to expand the V Refresh range with Blackcurrant Yuzu,” says Suntory Oceania Head of Energy & Transformation Josh Wheeler.

“Consumers are loving the zero-sugar energy category. The combination of blackcurrant and yuzu delivers a fresh, revitalising burst of flavour that’s perfect for those who want an energy boost without the sugar rush.”

According to research conducted by Suntory Oceania in conjunction with fiftyfive5 (2024), more than 20% of surveyed Australian and New Zealand consumers say they have consumed a zero-sugar energy drink in the last 12 months. Of those consumers, more than 60% believe they will drink even more or just as much in the next 12 months.

Asian-inspired flavours, like yuzu, matcha, and umami are emerging with high-growth momentum, as part of a trend towards fusing traditional, worldwide flavours into new, innovative applications (Mintel, ‘Flavours to Watch in 2025 Report’).

“The inclusion of Yuzu brings a distinct Japanese profile to the Refresh range, tapping into the growing global trend of Japanese-inspired ingredients in a uniquely V way tailored to Aussie and Kiwi taste preferences,” says Mr Wheeler.

“As a company with Japanese heritage, this new flavour not only offers a unique and refreshing twist, but also creates a meaningful link between our Oceania operations and our Japanese roots as part of the Suntory Group.”

The new addition joins the V Refresh lineup that currently includes Green Apple Lemonade, Pineapple & Watermelon, and Citrus Lemonade.
