What consumers want most when it comes to online shopping

The world of e-commerce has changed drastically due to COVID-19 restrictions, changing the way consumers behave and think.

In order to survive these quick changes, Australian businesses had to adapt, and change their traditional processes to meet the ‘new normal’.

Founder of eDelivery Carl Popovic, theorises that consumers want five things and businesses that provide them will be the most successful.

“Make no mistake, consumers are now more astute and careful with where they spend their money online than ever before. Retailers need to weaponise aspects of their business in order to survive and thrive.”

The five things outlined by Mr Popovic are:

Cheapest prices

“In order to support your customers’ needs and build a successful, long term e-commerce operation, it is important you too are staying up-to-date with competitors’ prices and value propositions,” says Mr Popovic.

“More than 50% of households have less to spend. This means retailers are competing for less available spend. Pricing needs to be razor-sharp to win the business. Brand loyalty is mostly now a thing of the past.”

More ways to pay

“With a sharp increase in online fraud and scams during COVID-19, shoppers need to feel safe and be able to pay using a platform they trust.

“In addition, large retailers are offering the customers the option to save their payment details for a fast and easy check out.

Reviews

“As the online retail space expands, reviews have become not only important – they are essential. For many, independent sites are important reference tools. Reviews are a key tool in establishing credibility and confidence with customers given the rise in scams,” says Mr Popovic.

Easy return policy

Whilst some e-commerce sites overlook their returns policies and processes, your returns strategy can become an integral part of differentiating your company. Customers are most likely to make purchases from a site that offers hassle-free, timely returns than one that does not or is not clear on their website.”

Fast and cheap delivery

“Customers want the fastest, most reliable and the cheapest delivery with tracking capability. Speed of delivery is the new ‘compete’ weapon. Weaponise this and you’ll annihilate your competition.”

eDelivery is Uberising delivery systems in Australia by offering shoppers 24/7 delivery within two hours of placing their orders for less than $8.

“Our cutting edge integratable AI technology allows retailers to focus on their products and their customers, saving them time and money by removing the need to develop in-house delivery options or rely on slow alternative options.”
