White’s IGA recruits for new store

Queensland retailers Roz and Michael White are creating new career paths and opportunities for 80 new staff as they prepare to open their latest store at Forest Glen.

Seeking to take the stress out of interviews, remove delays caused when numerous applications are received, and in a bid to streamline the whole recruitment process, the team at White’s IGA are once again taking an innovative approach to finding the right people.

Recruitment day

This Saturday, White’s IGA will be holding a recruitment day to fill full time, part time and casual positions at its brand-new store. The team will conduct on-the-spot interviews that allows potential applicants to share their expertise, experience and areas of interest within a few short minutes.

“No appointments are necessary, all we want people to do is to bring along their resume and a covering letter and tell us why they would like to join our friendly and dynamic team when we open our brand new Supa IGA store in August this year,” say Ms White.

This is the fourth time White’s IGA have approached hiring in this way and Ms White says the process has become one of her “favourite days of the year”.

“It allows us to really connect with the people who will represent us, which doesn’t always come through on paper,” she says. “These recruitment days help us to find truly special people who will complement our team.”

Local residents will have the opportunity to apply for employment within different departments of the new store including grocery, delicatessen, produce, freezer/dairy and meat, customer service, bakery/café and an instore lifestyle shop.

There is a good selection of positions on offer which will suit all sorts of people and the good news is that a number of positions available will not require any previous experience.

Finding the right people

“We want people who have the right attitude, enjoy interacting with customers and are achievement oriented, this is a great opportunity to become part of the wider White’s IGA family,” Ms White says.

“We are well known for looking after our staff because we’ve built a strong ‘people first’ culture and this is reflected in the /fact that we have a number of staff who have been with us for over a decade.”

The White’s Group now employs over 400 people and are always on the lookout for additional talent to join the team.

“Every person that joins our team is important to us,” says Ms White.

“Whether they stay for a moment, while they are studying or at school, or seeking a long-term career, each and every person has a role to play in delivering on our vision, and that is what I love about our recruitment days.

“I love looking a person in the eye and knowing that they will help us in our mission of being an outstanding service provider to our community, but they will also feel fulfilled with a sense of being part of a local business that is committed to supporting local – that is what is at the heart of it for me,” says Ms White.
