Woolworths extends TCS partnership

Global IT services, consulting and business solutions organisation Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has expanded its long-standing strategic partnership with Woolworths Group Limited.

The extended partnership will see TCS provide IT and digital services, including establishing DevOps teams, to enable faster time-to-market and respond to the dynamic needs of the business.

Ongoing value chain transformation

TCS has been Woolworths’ strategic partner for over 20 years and has been involved in several transformation initiatives across the retail value chain, including an SAP implementation and roll-out, range and space optimisation, supply chain programs, stores transformation, and digital initiatives.

Woolworths Group Chief Information Officer John Hunt saysTCS has a “deep expertise in the retail vertical”.

“As a result of working together over the past 24 years across a range of areas, we understand each other’s businesses and ways of working,” he says.

“As we continue to reimagine our customer and team member experience and embark on the next era of growth, TCS continues to be a strategic partner in helping Woolworths in its growth and transformation agenda.”

Expanded partnership

The expanded partnership will see TCS leveraging its global scale and investments to drive cloud adoption, evolution of data platforms to support deeper business analytics and insights, cyber security efforts, and other key digital initiatives in Woolworths’ growth and transformation agenda.

Further, TCS will embed Agile / DevOps into the ways of working and establish mature DevOps practises and tool chains across multiple systems.

TCS will also drive enhanced operational resilience through enhanced usage of ignio, TCS’ cognitive automation software, as well as other automation tools and establishment of a reliability services team.

Ganesa Subramanian Vaikuntam, TCS Business Unit Head (Retail Cluster – A&NZ), says TCS is pleased to expand and extend its strategic partnership with the retailer.

“We believe our contextual knowledge, digital capabilities and investments in research and innovation, position us well to help Woolworths realise its transformation objectives. We are excited to be part of this journey and look forward to strengthening the partnership further,” he says.
