Amazon Australia to onboard over 2000 seasonal workers

Amazon Australia has announced over 2000 new seasonal job opportunities to support fulfilment of customer orders over the holiday period, with applications open now in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane, Adelaide, Newcastle and the Gold Coast. For those who prefer a more flexible work arrangement there are also earning opportunities around the country, delivering packages with Amazon Flex.

The company plans to onboard over 2000 seasonal workers at its fulfilment centres and logistics sites around the country between now and Black Friday, and is looking for people to help pick, pack, ship customer orders with no previous experience required. These opportunities are in addition to 1250 permanent jobs created across Amazon Australia’s operations sites this year. Amazon employees receive competitive benefits, as well as ongoing opportunities for career growth within the company.

Amazon Australia Director of Operations Mindy Espidio-Garcia says, “As we head into the holiday season, we’re pleased to offer over 2000 new seasonal work opportunities for Australians around the country, at a time when thanks to cost of living pressures they are needed most.  Whatever your personal or professional situation, there’s a job or earning opportunity for you with Amazon.”

“Seasonal roles are great for those who want something shorter term like students on their summer break, while flexible opportunities are perfect for those who want to earn around their existing schedule or are looking for an additional income stream. This might be a parent who wants some additional money for gifts this holiday season, someone saving for their summer getaway or a retiree who’s looking for something to keep them busy while earning a bit of extra cash,” Ms Espidio-Garcia said.

Seasonal roles in the company’s fulfilment centres (FCs) and logistics sites may present a path to permanent employment and a long-term career at Amazon. In Melbourne, Danielle Winterburn’s career at Amazon began with a seasonal role packing orders at the Ravenhall FC, where she was then offered a permanent role as a Process Guide.

“The range of opportunities they have at Amazon is a huge draw card, and it’s a great environment to work in. I was so excited to be offered a full-time role just three months after starting as a packer! I’ve also been trained in a few areas of the business, and had the opportunity to meet some amazing people who work here,” Ms Winterburn said.

For Australians who want to supplement their existing income and earn a little extra money this festive season, they can sign up to Amazon Flex and deliver Amazon packages to customers using their own vehicle. Amazon Flex provides drivers the opportunity to work when it suits them and earn extra money in their free time.

Brisbane-based Amazon Flex Delivery Partner, Graham, is a semi-retiree who says he enjoys his occasional work with Amazon Flex as it keeps him “young and active”, and helps him save for his holidays.

“I deliver Amazon packages and enjoy the driving and I really do love the flexibility.  I’ve just worked a run of blocks because I’m going to Perth for a few weeks and it’s good to get that extra income. That’s what I love about it – I’m in control and I can pick the blocks to work that suit me!” says Graham.

The company recently launched virtual tours of its sites in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, offering insight as to what a role at Amazon involves, with visitors meeting the people who pick, pack and shop orders across Australia. Book in for interactive virtual tours at amazontours.com/au/virtual.
