Amazon Australia has announced the launch of Prime Free Same-Day Delivery in Sydney.
Same-Day Delivery is free to Prime members on eligible orders over $49 and is available to the vast majority of Sydney residents, covering over 90% of the city’s population.
Prime members can now order from more than one million products as late as midday for delivery before 10pm that day.
“We are focused on getting even faster for Prime members and are thrilled to be hitting a major milestone with the announcement of free Same-Day Delivery across a huge range of products for members in Sydney,” says Amazon Australia Country Manager Janet Menzies.
“We know that busy Australians really appreciate the time saved and the reliability of knowing that their order will arrive when we say it will. In fact, a report out today shows that faster online delivery times are estimated to have provided nearly $350 million of value to Australian consumers through improved convenience and time-saved over the past decade.
“Now for Prime members in Sydney, that is as fast as the very same afternoon or evening. We are really proud of the range of products that are eligible for Same-Day Delivery, meaning that you can get everything from a torch for your family camping trip to a water bottle for kids’ footy practice.”
Amazon aims to expand product selection and delivery areas eligible for Amazon’s Prime Free Same-Day Delivery and One-Day Delivery.
Benefits of fast delivery
A report from Mandala Partners, commissioned by Amazon, finds that in the last 10 years, faster online delivery times are estimated to have provided almost $350 million of value to consumers through improved convenience and time saved.
Online retail is driving intense competition in Australia when it comes to faster delivery options, says Amazon, and a previous report from Mandala estimated that households have saved nearly $3500 since 2019 thanks to the price-lowering effects of online channels.
Special deliveries
To celebrate the launch of Prime Free Same-Day Delivery, Amazon has appointed Australian cricketer Mitch Starc as their ‘Chief Speed Officer’.
He will be making special deliveries to lucky Sydneysiders. To be in with the chance of receiving a special delivery, locals need to head to Amazon Australia’s Instagram and share a cricket chant highlighting why they deserve a speedy delivery from Mr Starc.
He will arrive at their doorstep, delivering a haul of cricket goods and a $1000 Amazon gift card.
