Burch Family Wines scores highly

Among the 1,300-plus listed wineries in this year’s edition of the Australian Halliday Wine Companion, Burch Family Wines has had an impressive 33 individual wines receive a score of 90 points and above.

The Margaret River-based, family-run winery scored 97/100 for three of its wines, including its flagship 2013 Howard Park Abercrombie Cabernet Sauvignon. Their other high-scoring wines include two iconic whites, with the 2015 and 2014 Howard Park chardonnays being awarded impressive rankings.

Burch Family Wines CEO Jeff Burch says that he and the rest of his family were thrilled at the results in the 2017 Halliday Wine Companion.

“It’s a credit to our winemaking and viticulture teams to have so many of our wines scoring 90 points and above,” he said.

Renowned wine critic, writer and vigneron James Halliday has been writing about wine since the late 1970s and has authored and co-authored some 56 books on wine. His annual Halliday Wine Companion is now widely regarded as the most comprehensive overview of labels, winemakers and wineries in Australia.

“Even after 11 editions, it still brings me great joy in seeing the quality of wines and the increasing talent of winemakers from Australia,” he said. “Now we are witnessing an ever-increasing diversity of subregions, sites and varietals. It continues to be a very exciting industry to be working alongside.”
