Consumers warned to order online for Christmas early

B dynamic Logistics CEO Mal Siriwardhane is warning consumers to order their Christmas presents online as early as possible this year and avoid leaving things to the last minute.

“Despite the pandemic feeling like it is over and things have returned to normal, the reality is that supply chain issues are still impacting many businesses across the country and their ability to ship products to customers,” Mr Siriwardhane said.

“Some businesses have taken the important step of stocking up on products to ensure they have sufficient stock level in place for Christmas, but many have not simply because they are still experiencing delays getting products in from overseas.

“China is still closing down its ports and manufacturing centres due to its zero Covid policy. This is having a ripple effect across the world and affecting many retailers,” he said.

“My strong advice is to order early to allow for plenty of time for products to be shipped and delivered.

“On top of this, we are already seeing rising levels of online shopping across the country as consumers continue to embrace the convenience and ease of the online channel,” Mr Siriwardhane said.

“Retailers are also pivoting to offer more products online than what they do in-store. So, to get access to a larger range of products, shoppers now need to shop online.  It is no longer a case of being able to pop into a store and pick up an item in person, many products have to be purchased online and delivered to your door,” he said.

“Retailers are motivated to provide their best deals online rather than in-store due to the lower cost of operations for online retailers.”

B dynamic Logistics is a leading Australian-owned third-party logistics company that provides logistics, warehousing and distribution services on a national basis. B dynamic Logistics’ small to large clients include Dymocks, Dettol, ALDI, Costco, Universal Music Group and many more.

Mr Siriwardhane has outlined his tips for consumers to ensure they get their presents on time this Christmas.

Order early

“Many consumers wait until the last minute to order gifts online for Christmas. This year is going to be another challenging for retailers,” Mr Siriwardhane said.

“If you haven’t started doing your Christmas shopping online, it is best to start now. Check online retailer websites to gauge delivery times and supply issues. Check reviews to find out how retailers are really performing with delivery timeframes versus stated timeframes on their website.”

Check returns policies

“Where possible, check the returns policies with the retailers that you have or are about to purchase items from,” he said.

“Check their websites and ensure you are fully across their terms and conditions. This will assist you to understand their policy requirements so that just in case the items don’t arrive before Christmas you are aware of your return rights.”

Pay via credit card

“If you haven’t already purchased the items online, consider using a credit card or a payment facility such as Paypal,” he said.

“Credit cards offer consumer protections such as a dispute service.  Paypal also offers a similar process. As long as you can provide all the relevant documentation, this normally assists the process should you need to escalate matters.”

Parcel tracking information

“When you purchase items online, most retailers offer you visibility and tracking on the journey of your parcel. Opt for retailers that offer this level of delivery service,” Mr Siriwardhane said.

“Ensure you keep an eye on the progress of your parcel and if you have any concerns reach out to the retailer. The delivery service may offer you the opportunity to leave the parcel unattended in a safe location at your home if you are not there. Be careful when doing this as parcel delivery theft is on the rise, as are text message delivery scams too. Christmas is a particularly problematic time for these issues as well.”
