Costco heads north

Retail giant Costco has selected its second Queensland site – Walker Corporations’ $1 billion Citiswich Business Park in Ipswich.

The decision ended months of speculation giving the Ipswich business park, located 25 minutes west of Brisbane a welcome boost.

“We are thrilled to be continuing our investment in South East Queensland with this new location in Ipswich,” Costco Managing Director Patrick Noone said. “We have been trading in North Lakes since 2014 with great success and are excited to be bringing Costco to a dynamic, ever growing region.

“We will continue to actively engage with our Queensland based suppliers, look to recruit more than 280 staff from the local area and bring great prices in relation to a wide range of products and services.”

Site preparation works will commence immediately with Costco’s construction program scheduled for an opening of this store  aimed for 2018.

Queensland Walker Corporation General Manager Peter Saba said: “We are seeing international, national and local businesses recognising the strategic location of Citiswich for their customers and operations.

“The new motorway has opened up the whole South-East Queensland region with a very wide retail and business catchment, while cutting travel times to the Port of Brisbane, CBD, key business and residential centres.

“Major logistics group are locating at Citiswich because of its ability to service a wide area throughout Queensland and northern New South Wales, as we are close to three major highways,” he added.
