Honey from family owned and operated business, Hampson Honey, is now available at Woolworths stores in Queensland and northern NSW.
Hampson Honey co-owner Karin Hampson says her husband, Carl, and herself have been overwhelmed by the response their community.
“We’re a small family owned and operated honey business that started as a hobby with one beehive in our backyard 13 years ago,” she says. “Never would I ever have imagined it would lead to this.”
Ms Hampson admits she was initially against the idea of getting a beehive, believing she didn’t like the taste of honey. To her surprise, once she tasted honey from her own hives, Ms Hampson says she realised how “superior and delicious” the taste was compared to what she had had in the past.
“We wanted all our customers to experience how honey should taste,” she says, “so we thought we’d launch our own brand.”
On the process behind the honey, Mr Hampson says his company takes honey from the hives and extracts it, filters it, and puts it into a bottle.
“Nothing is ever added or blended,” he says. “What makes our honey unique is that it’s raw, so all the natural goodness is still intact. It’s from a single origin and we only use premium grade honey for our retail range. This is what honey is supposed to taste like.”
Hampson Honey is available at Woolworths in a 500g squeeze bottle, 450g glass jar and a 1kg tub.
