Perth gets longer trading hours for public holidays

Metropolitan Perth will get longer trading hours on both WA Day and the Queen’s birthday in a boost to retailers.

The WA government has approved an extra four hours of trading for general retail shops on both public holidays.

The extension to permitted opening times means general retail shops will be able to trade any time between 8am and 6pm on:

  • Monday June 3, 2019 (Western Australia Day); and
  • Monday September 30, 2019 (Queen’s birthday).

Regulated trading hours for these public-holiday Mondays are 11am to 5pm. However, the legislation enables the Minister for Commerce to vary public-holiday general retail trading hours in the Perth metropolitan area. Exceptions are Christmas Day, Good Friday and ANZAC Day.

There’s more information on WA’s retail trading-hours laws on the Consumer Protection website.
