Coles has launched the Southern Style RSPCA Approved Hot Roast Chicken, promoted as a “mouth-watering makeover” of its “best-selling” hot roast chicken.
Building on the success of previous flavour combinations including Honey BBQ and Vegemite, the new taste sensation was developed based on recent survey data. This revealed that around 60% of Coles team members who participated in development taste testing preferred Southern style flavourings for their chicken at this time of year.
The new chicken is prepared with a buttermilk marinade for “deliciously tender” meat, and contains a “flavour-packed” Southern-inspired stuffing which includes onion, garlic and a “secret blend” of herbs and spices.
Coles Product Developer for Seafood & Deli Tim Hickox says the retailer is excited to unveil a delicious update on an Aussie household staple, and to expand the range of convenient ready-made meal options available in store.
“We know our customers are loving the Southern Fried Chicken range in the poultry section, so we wanted to create a tasty and tangy flavour that would suit our best-selling RSPCA approved hot roast chooks,” he says.
“As the weather is cooling down, Aussies want comforting and hearty meals that are easy to prepare but won’t break the bank. With a smokey buttermilk marinade and herby stuffing, our Southern Style hot roast chicken is delicious when paired with traditional BBQ-style sides or even a simple green salad and potatoes.
“Following the success of the Honey BBQ Hot Roast Chicken launched last year, we discovered our customers are looking for tasty and flavour-packed alternatives to the humble roast chook. We also know that when our customers are time poor, our range of convenience meals are great take-home options that don’t compromise on flavour. Our Southern Style Hot Roast Chicken will take an easy weeknight meal or Sunday lunch to the next level.”
All Coles Own Brand chickens are said to be 100% Australian and raised on RSPCA-approved farms.
The Southern Style RSPCA Approved Hot Roast Chicken is available in all Coles stores nationally (except for the Northern Territory) for $13.
